Tradies Marketing Sydney — The 2026 Playbook for Booked Diaries
The Sydney tradies booking work 4 weeks out aren't doing 12 things. They're doing 5 things really well. This is the playbook — in priority order.
The 5 things that actually fill diaries
1. Google Business Profile (the cheapest lead source you have)
Set up properly, your GBP delivers 30–60% of your inbound calls. The non-negotiables:
- Real business name + ABN.
- All service categories selected (you can pick up to 10).
- Service areas defined by suburb (not radius).
- 20+ photos of completed jobs in real Sydney suburbs.
- A new post once a week.
- Active review collection (target 1–2 new reviews per week).
A well-run GBP is the single highest-ROI marketing asset for a Sydney tradie. Spend an hour a week on it — minimum.
2. A real website with suburb pages
Not a Wix one-pager. A proper site with:
- Phone number top-right on every page.
- Before/after photos from real Sydney jobs.
- 6–10 reviews above the fold on the home page.
- One page per service area suburb (Penrith, Blacktown, Parramatta, etc.).
- Click-to-call and click-to-WhatsApp buttons.
- Schema markup for LocalBusiness and Reviews.
See our tradies web design service.
3. Ute / van wrap + branded shirts
A wrapped ute parked at Bunnings is the cheapest billboard in Sydney. Costs $1,500 once, lasts 5 years. Branded shirts cost $50–$70 each. Both lift quote close-rates by 10–20% within a month. .
4. Google Ads (when GBP isn't enough)
Once your GBP and website are converting, layer Google Ads to scale. Realistic Sydney tradie spend:
| Trade | Sensible monthly ad spend | Typical cost-per-lead |
|---|---|---|
| Plumber, electrician (emergency) | $2,000–$5,000 | $40–$90 |
| Builder, carpenter | $1,500–$4,000 | $80–$200 |
| Landscaper, painter | $1,000–$3,000 | $60–$140 |
| Cleaner, handyman | $800–$2,000 | $25–$60 |
Add management ($590–$1,490/mo) on top. See our Google Ads service.
5. A CRM with auto follow-up
Most tradie leads die because they didn't get a callback fast enough. A simple CRM (GoHighLevel, HubSpot starter, or even a Google Sheet + Zapier) that:
- Sends an SMS within 60 seconds of any web form submission.
- Pings your phone with a missed-call text-back when you can't answer.
- Reminds you to chase quotes at day 2, day 5, day 10.
Adds 15–25% to your quote close-rate. Costs $50–$200/month.
What to skip (for now)
- TikTok and Instagram Reels for inbound work. Great for brand, terrible for booking emergency plumbing jobs.
- Print flyers and letterbox drops. ROI is brutal in 2026.
- "Lead generation" companies that sell you the same lead as 4 other tradies. Never works.
- Buying followers, fake reviews, "SEO packages" under $390/month.
Realistic monthly investment
| Stage | Monthly | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Just starting | $0–$300 | DIY GBP, basic website, ask for reviews |
| Owner-operator scaling | $1,500–$3,500 | GBP + small ad spend + light SEO |
| Established 3–10 staff | $3,500–$7,500 | Full SEO + ads + CRM + content |
| Multi-trade / multi-region | $7,500+/mo | Full agency retainer + brand work |
